The ESOL News Network (ENN) is a special project developed by
Patrick Redding and Suzan Borno, two Montgomery County (Maryland)
public school teachers. It is an online newspaper that is written and
published by ELL (English language learner) students.
Through ENN students learn how to gather information and how to improve
their writing. Our ENN reporters:
...learn journalistic skills. They come up with story ideas, write headlines
and leads, develop different types of newspaper stories, learn to distinguish
fact from opinion.
...do research. They gather information for their stories by inteviewing people, developing and interpreting surveys, accessing different sources of information.
...develop computer skills. They find information, send and receive email, type and edit stories.
At ENN we want students to learn more about what is going on in the world around them and to have some fun doing it.
