"How to...Write a News Article"
News stories are about things that are happening now (in the present time) and that are interesting to the reader. ENN looks for stories that bring the ELL student perspective (viewpoint) to local, state, national and international news.
A news story tells the basic facts about the story. The story usually tells what, where, when, who, why and how the news happened.
A good news writer tries to be fair in reporting a story. He or she must recognize his or her biases (opinions that you hold, sometimes without having enough information to judge correctly) and not let them interfere with reporting the facts. The news writer must present all sides of the story (a balanced view) if there is more than one side.
A good news writer gathers information for his or her story by reading other related stories, researching facts, and interviewing several people who know about it (see How to Do an Inteview).
Keep the news story brief and simple.
